Data Centre in central Madrid: emergency generator sets
From over 120 dB at source to regulatory compliance with dwellings less than 20 metres away.
The challenge
In central Madrid, SNA developed the project and subsequent execution of corrective measures for the acoustic control of three large-capacity emergency generator sets installed on the rooftop of a Data Centre building.
The project complexity was particularly high: source sound levels exceeded 120 dB, while the nearest dwellings were less than 20 metres away. This scenario required an intervention of maximum technical precision to ensure compatibility between critical technological infrastructure and a consolidated residential environment.
The solution
Work began at the design stage, where emissions under load, directivity, low-frequency behaviour and possible structural transmission were analysed in detail. Based on this diagnosis, a comprehensive strategy was defined combining high-insulation acoustic enclosures, interior absorbent treatments, specific silencer design and vibration control through decoupling systems suited to the mass and operating regime of the equipment.
Subsequently, SNA participated in the execution phase, supervising the correct implementation of the designed solutions, ensuring acoustic tightness, treatment continuity and control of possible rigid bridges or sound leaks.
The result
The result was an effective reduction of façade immission and compliance with municipal regulations, ensuring generator set operability without impacting adjacent dwellings. A critical infrastructure intervention project in high-density urban environments, where acoustic engineering combines predictive design, rigorous execution and innovative solutions to reconcile operational continuity and residential environment protection.
