Basslock®

Low-frequency acoustic insulation with airflow.

Basslock® is a patented system designed to solve one of the most technically challenging problems in acoustics.

Why conventional materials are not enough at low frequencies.

Low-frequency sound insulation — below 250 Hz — is technically different from insulation at mid and high frequencies. The wavelength of low-frequency sound is longer, and its ability to bypass obstacles and propagate through structures is greater. Conventional porous and absorbent materials, effective for mid and high frequencies, only provide 2 to 5 dB of insulation at low frequencies.

This limitation becomes a real problem in industrial environments where noise sources generate significant emission in the low-frequency range — motors, compressors, HVAC systems, large machinery — and where airflow must be maintained for ventilation or equipment operation.

Closing the air passage increases acoustic insulation but prevents proper equipment operation. Conversely, ensuring ventilation limits low-frequency performance. This compromise is not adequately resolved by conventional solutions.

To date, no solution on the market combines a comparable level of low-frequency attenuation with simultaneous ventilation capability. That is the technical space that Basslock® occupies.

Basslock® is not a conventional material. It is a metamaterial.

An acoustic metamaterial is a structural system designed to exhibit physical properties that do not occur naturally in conventional materials. Rather than relying solely on material mass, the performance of Basslock® is governed by three principles:

01

Geometry

The spatial arrangement of the system determines how it interacts with sound waves in the low-frequency range.

02

Structural architecture

The internal panel configuration creates acoustic behaviours impossible to achieve with porous or conventional mass materials.

03

Controlled wave interaction

The system manipulates pressure waves to maximise attenuation at target frequencies without blocking airflow.

The result is a system that maintains effective attenuation in the low-frequency range without closing the air passage — something conventional solutions cannot achieve.

Performance verified in acoustic chamber.

The acoustic performance of Basslock® has been tested and verified in an acoustic chamber. Frequency-band attenuation data shows significantly superior performance compared to reference commercial panels in the low-frequency range.
